Griffin, Gerald (1803-1840)

Griffin, Gerald (1803-40), born at Limerick, went to London in 1823, and failed as a dramatist, but was more successful with novels—Holland Tide (1827), Tales of the Munster Festivals (1827), and The Collegians (1829), on which the drama Colleen Bawn is founded. See Life by his brother (1843) and memoir in 1896 edition of The Collegions.
