Thomas Chipman McRae, of Prescott, was born at Mount Holly, Union County, Arkansas, December 21, 1851; was educated at private schools at Shady Grove, Mount Holly, and Falcon, Arkansas; studied law at the Washington and Lee University of Virginia, under Hon. John W. Brockenborough and Hon. John R. Tucker; was a member of the State Legislature of Arkansas in 1877 ; and was elected to the Forty-ninth Congress, to fill the vacancy caused by the election of J. K. Jones to the United States Senate, as a Democrat, receiving 13,877 votes against 8,738 votes for C. E. Mitchel, Independent.
