POTTER, Francis, an English divine, born in Wiltshire, and educated at Oxford. He succeeded his father as minister of Kilmington, 1637, and wa3 admitted member of the Royal society in conse quence of his presenting a curious hydraulic ma chine to that learned body. He was equally emi nent as a painter ; but his Explication of the Num ber six hundred and sixty-six, in the Apocalypse, 4to. Oxford, 1642, does not reflect much on his sense or genius as a commentator. He died blind, 1678.
