Potter, Henry Codman. An American clergyman and author, bishop of New York; born at Schenectady, N. Y., May 25, 1835. Educated in theology in Virginia, he became rector of Grace Church, New York city, in 1868; and was consecrated bishop of New York in 1887. His works include: 'Gates .of the East: A Winter in Egypt and Syria' (1876); 'Sermons of the City ' (1881) ; 'Waymarks' (1892). D. 1908.
